Just wanted to pop my head in the door to wish you all who celebrate it a wonderful Christmas Day. Yes, I know, I've been... scarce, but life sometimes tugs on ya, y'know? Besides, other than being busier that I think I've ever been, the distractions keeping me from here have been very, very pleasant. ;o)

Anyhow, wanted to let y'all know I'm thinking of you. And no, I did NOT send out cards this year, because I'm made entirely of fail in the holiday department. I was lucky to get my company's corporate cards out. :o(

<3 <3 <3 <3

ps: Ehlana's 15-years-old now. How'd THAT happen?!?!

Y'know, sometimes I just love that I have a file folder marked "Authorized for Destruction" on my desk. I feel like an Evil Overlord or something.

Skeeched from madamblue, who skeeched it from PN Elrod's LJ:

Where in the Hell is Matt? -- 14 months, 42 countries, 1 common theme:

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.

Or, alternatively, if you're having trouble loading it:

I just love the the message of universal brotherhood through goofy dancing. ^.~

Your Score: Geek Aspirant

You scored 54 out of 60

If you don't consider yourself a geek, perhaps you could start. If you do, you're probably mad at me for picking ambiguous quotes. (I swear they're the best IMDB had to offer... you might want to re-watch some of your movies).

Hey, spubba (and any other SGA fans out there):

I was just woken by an earthquake.

That was so friggin' weird.

Edit: It was a 5.4, centered near Olney, Illinois.

We're getting snow right now and I just looked up the radar a few minutes ago.

It showed this

See that circle in the center of the snow? Isn't that weird? Looks sort of yin-yang.

And: SNOW!!! :oD

If you're in Nashville and you're checking LJ, be aware there's a TORNADO WARNING for DAVIDSON COUNTY (and outlying counties, including Dickson, which I think is getting hit by much of the storm right now).

Casi, Emi et al, stay safe. The rest of y'all, turn on your TVs and keep track of the storm's path. Listen out for tornado sirens and be prepared to take cover.

Huh. Looks like Laurell K. Hamilton is slotted to be at Dragon*Con this year.

I'm not sure if I want to be excited about that? I DO like Anita Blake, don't get me wrong, but really wound up hating where LKH went with the storyline and Anita's character.

In other news, I seem to have worked through the YCon site issues, at least the ones that were making the content get skewed into oblivion. I also know that I won't likely ever use DIV-based tabular elements ever again, given their issues with cross-browser compatibility. This has been nightmarish.

Things have been so hectic both at work and at home that I'm further behind that I expected on getting the site live. Thank God for summerqueen, who's been user-testing and plugging in content like a crazy-person (only not as...crazily? ^.~). saya415's already gotten me all the Registration info (Bless you, Korean, BLESS YOU!), I just haven't had the time to actually get it online. I need more time in the day!

Ehlana's Trials and Tribulations with the contacts are ongoing. She missed her bus yesterday because it took her an HOUR to get them in. But it took her less than 40 minutes this morning, which is promising. Getting out has been a snap for her. Less precision involved in that, I think?

Oh, and I keep totally forgetting this, but it looks like I'm heading to MegaCon in Orlando the weekend of March 7th with phantomminuet and our group of friends. It's going to be a MUCH needed vacation, since I will have finally wrapped up a big event I'm coordinating for work the weekend before. So if anyone's planning to go to MegaCon, maybe we can hook up? Author Tanya Huff's supposed to be there, along with Dylan Neal (Mike Celluci) and Kyle Schmid (Henry Fitzroy) from the television adaptation of her Blood vampire series, Blood Ties.

Oh, and Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers) and Erin Gray (Col. Wilma Deering) from Buck Rogers are supposed to be there, too! I can fangirl again! (maybe I'll be more awake and coherent than I was at Dragon*Con?)

If you're like me and wasn't able to get through to bid during that last half hour or so of the Sweet Charity auctions, please DO donate something via the "Donate" area on the right side of the site. Even if it's a few bucks (or pounds or whatever).

Way I figure it, I've been mooching for free off of fandom for years; it's about time I paid for it, even if it's not a vanity fic written just for me. ;o)

But if anyone would like to write a Consolation Fic, I won't refuse it. ;oD

In other news, Ehlana got contact lenses today. Took her 45 minutes in the optometrist's office to figure out how to get them out of her eyes.

Next up: Braces. Which are going to kill me financially, I just know it. ;_;

That's awesome. If I wasn't busy breaking the Yaoi-Con website ::headdesk:: I'd totally make some yaoi Valentines eCards for the YCon site.

But... busy breaking the Yaoi-Con web site here. :o/

Today's work: backing up entire contents of web server, backup of SQL database, delete EVERYTHING on web server AND database then start over from scratch.

::kicks stuff::

Oh and this is the last day of Sweet Charity, so get those bids on! Just don't bid on my Ho, because I have a $25.00 budget and I'm already there. :o(

So, I go to yukarikiss' wonderful baby shower/kegger last night, right? Have a good ol' time, drink a bit (too much) and wind up hanging out until 4am, so I can drive home.

No big deal, I can sleep in, right?

Well. It appears I COMPLETELY forgot I was supposed to be taking care of my 14-year old and 5-year old nephews today, since my sister and mother have gone to visit a cousin in Ohio and my brother-in-law has to work.

I've spent the entire morning more than a bit hungover, with a 5-year old behaviorally-challenged, mildly autistic boy screaming/whining in my ear (he speaks in this high falsetto), piling me high with stuffed animals, shaking this baton/noise-maker at my face and being a general nuisance.

(and no, I expect no pity. I should know better.)

In other news, it's 11:30am and it's only 19° F here in Nashville. The high's supposed to get up to a whopping 26° F today. Shiver me timbers.

Dreamhost just charged me $418.37 for webhosting. Actually DEBITED my bank account for that amount.

What. The Hell?

You other Dreamhost customers better check your accounts, just in case they did the same to you.

God. I'm just glad that my payroll went through this morning, too. Dreamhost is going to have to go a long way to make this one up. O.o

I know I'm a bit late for those across the pond and beyond, but HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you!

I have resolutions (most of which involve getting rid of the weight I just gained in the last few weeks -- woe), but as I seem to jinx them if I speak them aloud (or, well, post them), I'll keep them to myself.

Haven't really had any time to check LJ these last few weeks, either, so I'm sorry if I missed anything significant. Please do poke me to let me know if there's something I should know about. I want to catch up, but am not sure if I'll have the time.

Ehlana's flight home from Wisconsin was canceled (nothing unexpected, really), so she'll be coming home a day late, tomorrow (hopefully). Think she's sick of airports. I really miss her.

Thanks to all who sent me the fabulous cards, especially those that were handmade/crafted. Some gorgeous stuff, that.

I've been drinking a fabulous Johannisberg reisling I picked up in Napa last time I was there with abyss_goat post-Yaoi-Con, since I didn't get invited to any New Year's parties (no surprise there). Feeling pretty good, but will likely ring in the New Year in my comfy bed. Going to phantomminuet's for a New Year Brunch tomorrow mid-morning.

Adore you all, my wonderful FList. Thanks for an amazing year and for your friendships. Here's hoping for yet another fabulous year and many more thereafter.

Well, the Kid has landed in Wisconsin. Granted, not the original airport, but she's at least in the freakin' right *state*.

She's exhausted, but as soon as her plane gets to the gate, in good hands. I'm exhausted (and ugh, sicker), so I'm heading to bed in a bit.

Thanks all y'all, for the supportive comments to my rants. :o)

Okay, I'm a pretty flexible gal. I can deal with change, disruption, delays and the like.

I can understand that weather can contribute to air flights being delayed and diverted. I can understand when flights are "cancelled due to aircraft maintenance".

I cannot understand when an airline does not tell either the parent or grandparent of an unaccompanied minor who is travelling on their carrier when these issues arise.

Not one word.
Not one phone call.
Nothing. Zilch. Nada. La shay. Diddly. Squat.

The only reason we've known about any of these issues is because we've been tracking the flights online and because Ehlana has been texting and calling me on her cell phone.

Her flight from Detroit to Wisconsin has been cancelled. How do I hear about it? A text from Ehlana, saying, "do u known any friends live near. flight canceled".

What the hell?

My mother-in-law, frantic, is currently on the phone with the travel agent. Ehlana just texted me again, saying that they're "rebooking" her.

Is this on another flight? On another carrier? How would we even know, since the airline hasn't bothered to freakin' notify us of SQUAT.

I'm so beyond pissed right now. >.<

You bet your butt Northwest Airlines is getting a helluva Nasty-Gram from me.

I hold, in my hand, a check for $1,816,050.35.

Alas, it is not mine. I cannot buy shoes with it. Woe.

Update on Ehlana's Trip, from my last post -- her flight from Grand Rapids is leaving shortly, bound for Detroit. If that flight and the one from Detroit to Wisconsin are on time, she should reach her grandparents at about 5pm or so.

It's been a long day. She kept texting me, bored out of her gourd. ;o)
26 December 2007 @ 12:27 pm
That's the airport code for Grand Rapids, Michigan's airport, at which Ehlana's flight to see her grandparents in Wisconsin has just been diverted from Detroit, which is apparently experiencing inclement weather.

What's more fun? Her connecting flight in Detroit has had its departure time delayed, but will STILL be leaving 11 minutes before Ehlana's diverted flight, coming in from Grand Rapids, will arrive in Detroit.

And can I get anyone, ANYONE from Northwest Airlines on the phone? Oh hell no.

::kicks stuff::

She's flying as an unaccompanied minor and has no clue what's going on. She did call me on her cell phone and told me her flight was diverted to Grand Rapids, but didn't know anything else. Needless to say, she's in a bit of a tither right now.

Me? I'm pissed. Granted, weather issues do crop up, but the fact that I cannot get ANYONE on the phone at Northwest has my panties in a bunch. Her grandmother's calling the travel agent she booked the tickets through and hopefully SHE can get in touch with someone.

That said, I hope y'all had a lovely Christmas. I did, though I'm now sick and exhausted. -_-

I know I have a bunch of friends into knitting and crocheting and all that sort of thing that I have no talent for....

thegrimtuesday has just opened a new Etsy shop with hand-dyed yarns. She's got some really pretty stuff:
